Live Visual Installation

Torre Andrade, León, Gto. A live audiovisual installation that looks at distortion, surveillance, and presence through real-time image processing and AI-generated visuals.

problem

For the opening night of Horror Vacui—an exhibition by artist Mandala Cceron, hosted at Torre Andrade in León, Gto.—the curatorial intent called for a visual intervention that would be able to exist in real time, responding to space, bodies, and signal rather than functioning as a static artwork. The challenge had two parts. to construct an interactive visual system that takes live camera input and turns it into something unstable and expressive, while integrating a second layer of AI-generated imagery that extended the themes of the exhibition without overpowering them. The installation needed to feel present, fragile, and performative (something that only existed fully in the moment of its activation.)

solution

Alongside Alfredo Canales, we designed an interactive visual installation using the camera feed routed through signal processing and TouchDesigner. In this process, there was a live input subjected to glitching techniques. My contribution was based on creative and conceptual input in the shaping of how distortion, colours, delay, and fragmentation should operate as an expressive effect. This part of the interactive visual installation was projected live and also responded to the audio generated by Alfredo Canales. In parallel, I created a series of AI-generated visuals using Midjourney, derived as variations of my previously created analogue artworks. These have been animated in Runway and compiled into a video sequence that undergoes further processing in After Effects, where glitch and degradation effects have been added intentionally. The result was then presented on a CRT television, reinforcing the tactile, imperfect quality of the signal and grounding the digital imagery in physical presence.

The visuals were displayed live on the opening night of the exhibition, activated in real time as visitors moved through the space.

Invited by artist Mandala Cceron, this installation became part of the inauguration itself—a condition rather than an object to observe.
What transpired was a dialogue between body, camera, and machine.
Signs bent, images fractured, identities blurred.
The image on the CRT screen flickered, as if remembering something imperfectly; the feed refused stability.

Collaboration was necessary: ideas passed between artists, tools, and the space itself. The work did not strive for permanence; it assumed impermanence as part of the performance.
